If you stay in Salamanca hotels you will have time to see the historic center of the city, which condenses much of its history. Start your visit in the Plaza Mayor, the heart of the city, with a marked Churrigueresque baroque style. Very close to here you will find the Old Cathedral, from the 12th century, and the New Cathedral, in Gothic style, built in the 16th century. The place where both converge is popularly known as “the small patio.”

Among the numerous convents that you can find in Salamanca, we recommend the Convento de las Agustinas, of Italian inspiration, inside whose interior paintings by José de Ribera are exhibited. It is also worth seeing the Convento de Dueñas, from the 15th century, with its cloisters with an irregular floor plan, or the Convent of San Esteban, in Plateresque style. There are also countless churches that dot the streets of Salamanca, such as those of San Marcos and San Martín, next to the Plaza Mayor.

The University of Salamanca, the oldest in Spain, has seen many of the most renowned figures in the country's history pass through its classrooms. In its School Courtyard there are the Major Schools and the Minor Schools, a must-see. Among the construction buildings, the Casa de las Conchas (today the public library) stands out, from the 15th century. Its façade, with 350 scallop shells, is a tribute to the Order of Santiago.

Near the hotels in Salamanca you can walk through the green areas of the city, as well as visit the Campo de San Francisco or the Huerto de Calixto y Melibea, where it is believed that Fernando de Rojas was inspired to write his famous work La Celestina .

What to eat? In many of the hotels in Salamanca you will enjoy a wide selection of wines and typical dishes. Delight your palate with Castilian gastronomy, with options such as Charra veal, Guijuelo ham or Arribes cheeses, well accompanied by wines from the Pereña de la Ribera wineries.
